Don’t Forget About the Range Hood!

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Piecing together all of the different necessary kitchen cooking tools can be a hassle. We don’t just mean tools. We also mean all the heavy duty appliances that go into every top-notch kitchen – the microwaves, the stovetops, the ovens, the sinks, etc. One item that always seems to go a bit overlooked, or at least saved until last is the range hood.

A range hood is that large installation above your stove top that stylishly whisks away the cooking exhaust that emits from every no-doubt gourmet meal you prepare. When thinking about getting one remember this one thing, they’re huge! And since they’re so huge they usually catch the eye quite readily, so make sure you get one that helps shape the room. Here are some of our favorite designs.

The classic chrome range. This is something you’ve probably seen before. It’s clean looking, fits with a variety of colors, and is probably on the less expensive side compared to some of these others.

The copper tinted range. For a more rustic feel go with a copper colored range. It gives a warmer feel to the room and some might say a bit more creativity also.

Operation Refrigerator Cleanup

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

You might be sporting a pristine new kitchen or a set of appliances that would put the Food Network kitchens to shame, but that’s simply no excuse for a cluttered, disgusting fridge. Many of us can become light hoarders when it comes to certain items that upon evaluation seem so ready to be thrown away its not even funny.

Fix it! Fix it!

Fix it! Fix it!

Let’s break down a list of things that could use some disposal.

1) Condiment Evaluation – Do you have more than two bottles of ketchup sitting in your fridge? Do you have condiments you don’t even like in your fridge? Worse yet, do you hoard condiment packets like duck sauce and relish? Well, if that’s the case you simply need to unclutter. Condiments are generally inexpensive and no one likes a crusty, back of the fridge mustard that no one knows when the last usage date was. Toss em!

Make SURE You’ve Got Ample Countertop Space

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Have you ever lived in a house or apartment that was really in need of some counter-space? I know I have. Countertops are easily taken for granted if you have them, but when you’re searching for a place to prepare a meal or place any number of items you normally would in a kitchen replete with countertop space and you’re without it can be maddening. I lived in an apartment in Brooklyn that was a cook’s worst nightmare. We decided to live there because it was in a great location and the price was just right, but the kitchen had a problem we idiotically overlooked in the apartment search process. The kitchen had a four burner stove and a double basin sink, but no countertops! There was nothing. Initially we were preparing food in the minuscule space in between the burners – a paltry situation to be in.

Where's the countertop?
