Don’t Get Scammed!

How to Avoid Home Renovation Scams

It’s sad but true – there are a lot of people there will try to make a buck by scamming unsuspecting people. You’ve probably been scammed, or had somebody try to pull the wool over your eyes at least once in your life. As professionals in the home renovations industry, we take scams of this nature very seriously and we wanted to describe some common ones here so you will have the knowledge you need to protect yourself from con artists. Most of these guys think they can come in, impress you with verbal knowhow and then run off  with cash in hand. Well, they’re a short call to the Better Business Bureau away from prison.

Cash up Front

Reputable businesses will never ask you to pay in full for a job upfront. If someone asks you to do this you should view it as a red flag. It is common to have a payment plan with your contractor where you pay a little in the beginning, a little in the middle, and the rest at the end of the job.

The Bowling Ball VS. Our Trend Stone…Who Will Prove the Victor?

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Well, if you haven’t browsed the Granite Transformations site lately you ought to go take a couple of minutes and give it a once over. Right as you arrive on our home page you’ll find a semi-discreet video box just to the right of the main center graphic. What most people don’t do is click on it, but man oh MAN should they ever. I sometimes forget exactly how cool one of our videos is, but I’ll allow you to make your own judgments. Ladies and gentleman, without further ado I re-present to you “Bowling Ball vs. Trend Stone.” Enjoy!

Seems pretty conclusive, folks. The bowling ball absolutely decimated the regular slab of granite while our composite trend stone showed the bowling ball who was boss – and the trend stone looked great doing it! Seriously though, if your counter top can withstand some hard, Charles Barkley-like dribbles of a bowling ball with nary a scratch then just imagine the resistance your new granite countertop can have against typical kitchen mishaps. Oh the possibilities.

Cabinet Refacing On the Rise

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

According to a report from the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University, annual spending on remodeling is expected to accelerate this year, with nearly 5 percent growth over 2009. In our case, cabinet refacing sales are already double the amount than its previous year as we find that an overwhelming amount of people who look into our services are swayed by the ease and convenience the method presents. This rapid growth is proof of the quality of the product.

Artistic Inspiration at its Best

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Have you ever stepped into a home and thought to yourself ‘WOW, how did they ever come up with this design?’ It happens quite a bit to me, as I just can’t seem to think as creatively as some of my artistically adept friends. No matter; I get to gander at their designs all I want, knowing that I didn’t have to shell out the cost to produce it. So in a weird, unsatisfied way I get the last laugh (sort of)! Maybe I just don’t receive the inspiration necessary to plan out such beautiful interior design arrangements. That’s why I hope these wonderfully creative bathroom designs serve as some sort of creative muse for you and yours.

Don’t want to lose even one iota of comfort when you schlep your body from the couch to the bathtub? Well in this home, the bathroom is so plush it may even exceed the comforts of the living room. Does an upholstered, overstuffed bathtub sound like you’re kind of relaxation? It certainly doesn’t seem stressful.

How cozy, no?

More Like the MOMA than Your Bathroom

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Oh the joys of remodeling! We all seem to want to spice up our home from time to time, but much of the time we fall prey to the conformed look. Let’s all get glossy countertops, new cabinets, a big, stylish mirror, and have a technically sound, yet roomy and luxurious shower/tub. Yes, this is what we want, but where is there room for imagination and creativity? Sure, you can pick color schemes and plant arrangements, but will sparks fly, or will it become stagnant? Thanks to mosaic slabs you can now treat your bathroom, or any room you choose, like your own canvas.

Run-Down Cabinets? Maybe They Need a Facelift.

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Are you one of the millions of Americans who have cabinets missing nobs? Or perhaps you fall under the ‘my cabinets don’t close all the way’ category. And then there’s a slim, but still possible, chance that you might even be (say it ain’t so!) missing cabinet doors all together. If any of these dire kitchen-based scenarios sounds like you then it might be the time for some action. Don’t be alarmed! We’re not talking about a full demolition here; just a facelift, so to speak. Thinking of replacing cabinets can be a little overwhelming and, on its face, can appear to be a pricy endeavor.

Off-kilter, off-hinge, or just plain ugly? Are these your cabinets?

The Ballad of the Ruined Tub Liner

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

We’ve all moved into new homes and apartments expecting, at the very least, a dollop of work to be done here or there. Whether it be some slight repairs or a full remodel, the inclination to better a new home certainly exists in many of us. Though, as some of you know all too well, often times we move in expecting whatever ills the new home may hold to have been eradicated prior to the move in date, only to find that nothing has been done. Blasphemy! It’s an undesirable, yet sometimes ultimately helpless situation. If only acrylic bath resurfacing had factored into the equation before the move-in date, then maybe you wouldn’t be in such a pickle as to what to do or how to attack this problem. Whether it’s in the shower or bathtub, acrylic resurfacing won’t lead to these horrific, move-in-day urban legends.  Allow me to weave you a tale on the subject.

Mosaics and You: The Remodeling Beginners Guide

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

I don’t imagine any of you out there reading this would liken yourself an imperial emperor, nor a monarch, nor a Roman aristocrat. So, you must not think that fine mosaic designs and refined, glossy-looking backsplashes adorning every room from the kitchen to the bathroom to the living room would be an option for you – it’s only fit for a king! Not so! You, too, can give your home that elegant feel that only a mosaic design can deliver.

Color

Color brings fun and drama to the bathroom. You can be as bold or as subtle as you wish. Painting one accent wall is a great way to bring add splash of color to the room without overwhelming the space. Highlighting the bathroom through cleverly chosen color schemes can make for a very aesthetically pleasing space, not just a plain, wall-papered nook.
